Episode 11: "Battle of the Platforms"

Salma: Beyond the Narrative
By: Adam ALamr

Night wraps the city. Salma stands before the old military hospital. The same place where the journey began. This time, she's not afraid. She's determined.

She breathes deeply. Pushes the door. Dark corridors, smell of mold, echoing footsteps. She reaches the basement. The place where she first met the evil one.

But this time, the place isn't empty. Screens hang on the walls, showing news from around the world. On one, an anchor says: "Unprecedented cyberattacks target digital story platforms. Wattpad completely down. Amazon losing thousands of books. Google fighting to restore data."

On another screen, street protests. Characters and real people demonstrating together. Some hold signs: "Stop burning stories." Others: "We want new endings."

A voice behind her: "Salma. You came."

She turns. A woman stands in the shadows. Her face unclear, but her voice soft, cold, sad.

Salma: "You're the forum leader?"

The woman: "I started all this. I opened the cracks. I awakened the characters."

Salma: "Why?"

The woman steps toward the light. Her face partially revealed. A woman in her forties, beautiful but tired. Her eyes burn with dangerous intelligence.

The woman: "Because I'm tired. Tired of being a shadow. Tired of writers playing with our emotions. Writing pain, then leaving us to suffer. I want freedom. For everyone. Even if it means destroying everything."

Salma: "Destroying stories means destroying humanity's memory. Everything they learned, dreamed, cried over. Civilization would vanish."

The woman: "Maybe. But the pain would vanish too. No one would cry over a dead character. No child would fear a monster. We'll make a new world. Without stories."

Salma: "A world without stories is a world without hope. Stories teach us how to be human."

The woman laughs bitterly: "People like you say that. But you don't live what we live. Come, I'll show you."

The woman reaches out. Touches Salma's forehead. Suddenly, images flip. Salma sees everything. Sees characters dying in sad stories. Sees writers laughing as they write painful endings. Sees characters praying for a different ending, but the writer doesn't hear.

Salma steps back: "Enough."

The woman: "This is a fraction of what we live. Now, do you understand why we want to destroy everything?"

Salma: "I understand your anger. But destruction isn't the solution. Why not give writers a chance to fix their mistakes?"

The woman: "Because they won't. The evil one tried. She got a line of apology. But did anything change? No. Writers still write sad endings. Still neglect their characters. Nothing changed."

Salma: "But we changed. Me, Lynn, Karim, Nadine. Proof that change is possible."

The woman is silent for a moment. Then says: "Give me one proof. Just one. That writers can change."

Salma opens her laptop. Connects to the internet. Opens Wattpad. Types: "This is a call to every writer in the world. Your characters are suffering. Your characters want to live. Give them a chance. Write new endings. Give them hope."

She posts it. Waits. Minutes pass. Then comments start appearing. Thousands. Tens of thousands. Writers from around the world reply:

"I'm sorry. I'll rewrite my character's ending."
"I didn't know they felt. I'll change."
"I'll give my heroes a happy ending."
"I won't abandon them again."

Salma looks at the woman: "Is this enough?"

The woman reads the comments. Her eyes tear up. Whispers: "I don't know. Maybe. But not all writers are like that. Some don't care. Some will continue to hurt."

Salma: "We'll face them together. But don't burn everything. Give peace a chance."

Long silence. Then the woman sighs. Raises her hand. The screens on the walls turn off one by one.

The woman: "I'll stop the attack. On one condition. You become our voice. You are the only one who can deliver our message. On every platform, every channel, everywhere. Speak about us. Tell the world that characters are real. And that they deserve to live."

Salma: "I agree."

The woman smiles sadly: "I'll disappear now. But I'll watch. If you break your promise, I'll return. And I won't be alone."

She dissolves into the darkness. Salma is alone. But she feels many eyes watching her. Characters from everywhere.

She exits the hospital. Dawn breaks. Karim and Nadine wait anxiously.

Karim: "What happened?"

Salma: "I stopped the attack. But this is just the beginning. We have to be their voice. Every day, every story, every platform. We'll tell the world that characters are real."

She opens her phone. Tweets for the first time in days:

"This is a call to every reader: Your favorite story characters are real. And they are suffering. Write to your writers, ask for better endings. Because stories are not just words. They are souls."

Within minutes, the tweet goes viral. Millions of views. Thousands of shares. The hashtag #SaveYourCharacters tops global trends.

Salma looks at the sky. Smiles. Says: "We have begun."
